My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance is an American alternative rock/punk rock band
that originated in 2001 in New Jersey.  My Chemical Romance, or MCR, consists of lead vocalist Gerard Way, guitarist Ray Toro, guitarist Frank Lero, bassist Mikey Way, and former drummer Bob Bryer.  MCR in 2002 released their first studio release with Eyeball Records, called “I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love”.  The next year they signed with Reprise Records and in 2004 released their hit album “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” that went platinum the following year.  Soon after in 2006 the band came out with another hit album “The Black Parade”.  This album received good reviews from critics and sold more than the previous album.  On November 22, 2010 MCR released their fourth studio album entitled “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys

Attack Attack!

Attack Attack is an American hardcore/metalcore band from Westerville, Ohio.  The band consists of lead vocalist/keyboardist Caleb Shomo, lead guitarist Andrew Whiting, bassist John Holgado, and drummer Andrew Wetzel.  Attack Attack uses heavy guitar riffs, and double bass in your face drum beats that keep you pumped, not to mention the techno dance beats.  That’s right this unique heavy metal band includes interludes and breakdowns that have synthesized upbeat dance grooves.  The first album “Someday Came Suddenly” was released in 2008 with the smash hit “Stick Stickly” as their single.  This is the perfect example of a metal-to-techno switch right in the middle of the song that keeps you on your feet.  With the new self-entitled album, Attack Attack’s keyboardist Caleb moved to vocals and brought the band a totally new sound. He brought heavier vocals, lower dropped tuning, and more pop beats for the new album. With this change they leaned more towards more metalcore instead of a post-hardcore/hardcore feel.

"Memories and Melodies " Avian Sunrise

Avian Sunrise is a new band I discovered and had the privilege of playing a show with this past weekend.  They have recently released a new album called "Memories and Melodies".  Members include vocalist/ piano Bryan Wehrkamp, guitarist Luke Volden, guitarist Matt Bump, bassist Corey Gross, and drummer Paige Vanderweide. They are a mixture of
spacey-delayed guitar, melodic vocals, piano, and driving hard hitting drums.  Along with the ambient sound being released from the amplifiers they put on an explosive, high energy show.  Some bands I would compare them to are Angels and Airwaves, Jack's Mannequin, and The Temper Trap.  The band originates from Vermillion, South Dakota where early in their career they played with bands Owl City, Quitedrive, and Silverstein.

The Killers

The Killers are an American rock band that formed in 2001 in a little town in Nevada called from Las Vegas.  The band consists of lead vocalist/keyboard player Brandon Flowers, lead guitarist Dave Keuning, bassist Mark Stoermer, and drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr.  Many of the influences of their music derive from 80's synthesized pop rock.  During the beginning of the band they played local Vegas shows in clubs and a lot of times for local drag shows.  The band was not picked up by an American record company, but rather a British representative of Warner Bros. heard them and turned them to a UK record company called Lizard King Records.  Soon after a local London radio station played them, and they started becoming a hit in the UK.  They soon moved to London and started playing shows in clubs and bars in the area.
The Killers released their first album, "Hot Fuss" in 2004 where it went 6x platinum in the UK and 3x platinum in the United States. This CD had hits such as Mr. Brightside, Smile Like You Mean It, Somebody Told Me, and Andy You're A Star.  In 2006 the band released the album "Sam's Town" and a B-side CD called Saw Dust.  In late 2008, The Killers released their 3rd album Day & Age, with the single "Human".  After being on the road for 6 years the band has decided to take a break from touring and the writing process. Flowers has said the band will be back and writing a follow up album to Day & Age.

The Used

The Used is an Alternative rock/Post-Hardcore band from Orem, Utah.  The band consists of vocalist Bert McCracken, guitarist Quinn Allman, bassist Jeph Howard, and drummer Dan Whiteside.  The band started in 2001 in the basement of Jeph’s house where they recorded their first demo CD called “Demos from the Basement.”  In the beginning, members of the band struggled with homelessness, poverty, and drug abuse.  The band originally started under the name “Used” but later found out a band from Boston had already trademarked the name, so the band added “The” to the beginning to become “The Used.”   The members chose the name after their friends claimed they felt "used" when contact was lost between them and band members due to them becoming more involved in the band.  In 2002, the band signed with Reprise Records and released their first album “The Used.”  This Album had four singles: "A Box Full of Sharp Objects", "The Taste of Ink", "Buried Myself Alive", and "Blue and Yellow.”  Since then, the band has released three studio albums: “In Love and Death”, “Lies for the Liars”, and “Artwork.”  They have also released a double-sided live CD, “Berth”, and a B-side EP from the “Lies for the Liars” album called “Shallow Believer.”  The band is currently writing for their new album and touring.  If you are not already a huge fan of The Used, you should definitely check out their music and see what you think.

"Elephant Phenotype" New York, New York

“Elephant Phenotype” is New York, New York’s first EP release, set to debut December 12, 2010.  This EP is their first released album with vocalist Aaron Chisholm, Bassist Michael Dickinson, and drummer Tell Pryor.  The band started during the summer of 2010.  While Aaron was away working in Seattle, Washington, Tell stayed back in St. Louis, Missouri, and continued working as well.  Aaron and Tell would record guitar parts and e-mail them to each other while they collaborated together to write songs.  In August, Aaron moved back to Missouri and both started writing and recording.  In late September, Michael Dickinson filed in as the bassist and second vocalist.  The three piece band began doing shows locally while still looking for a fourth member.  Because each member has different musical influences, there is a unique style to each song from the band.  Deep folk and punk styles originate to form the genre of music New York, New York is creating.  Be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming shows and music updates.

"What Separates Me From You" A Day To Remember

"What Separates Me from You" is the newest album by A Day to Remember set to release on November 16, 2010.  This is the follow up to their hit album “Homesick” which sold 22,000 in the first week.  A Day to Remember is a combination of post-hardcore, metalcore, and power pop while also keeping the music very melodic.  The drums are an upbeat punk style drumming, but then can turn to a halftime, double bass, in your face breakdown.  The band is also known for having soft acoustic songs that are just as powerful as the hardcore songs.  They signed to Victory Records in 2006, after playing a show just outside of Chicago where a crowd of 50-60 people came and sang along as if they were lifetime fans.  Since signing with Victory Records, A Day to Remember has released three studio albums, nine hit singles, and eight music videos.  “Homesick” peaked at #1 on top independent albums, and #21 on Billboard’s Top 200.  The song “2nd Sucks” off their new album has been released on Victory Records Facebook page for fans to get a sneak peak at the upcoming album.

“Disambiguation” UnderOath

Disambiguation” the new album from UnderOath is set to release on November 9, 2010 through Roadrunner Records.  “Disambiguation” is a follow up to their previous album “Lost in the Sound of Separation”.  Since the departure of their drummer and clean vocalist, Aaron Gillespie, the band found a new drummer, but decided to keep it a secret from the public till a later time nearing the new album.  Aaron was the last member of the original band which it started in 1997.  Aaron Gillespie is now focusing on his band “The Almost” and his ministry while touring.   On May 10, 2010 UnderOath released that former drummer Daniel Davison, from Norma Jean, would be the new drummer for UnderOath and be recording on the new album. During the recording process, UnderOath would release individual tracks from one song of their new album starting with drums, then bass, then guitars, and finally vocals.  This built anticipation leading up to the first full length song, “Illuminator” located on their website and on MySpace. "Illuminaudio" Chiodos

“Illuminaudio” is Chiodos's third studio released album following their previous albums, “Bone Palace Ballet” and “All's Well That Ends Well.” Chiodos is set to release “Illuminaudio” October 5, 2010, on Equal Vision Records.  This album features new singer, Brandon Bolmer, and new drummer, Tanner Wayne.  Brandon left the band Yesterday's Rising, where he was the lead singer, to step in as the replacement of former lead singer, Craig Owens.  Tanner Wayne, the former drummer of Underminded and also Scary Kids Scaring Kids replaced the drummer, Derrick Frost.  Craig Owens and Derrick Frost were released from Chiodos due to disagreements between Owens and Frost.  Frost decided to lay down the sticks and leave first. Shortly after, the band came to a decision to let Owens go as well.  The band choose to keep the new lead singer a surprise until their performance at Bamboozled, but Alternative Press released the news that Brandon will be the front man for Chiodos in February of 2010.  Brandon has kept the Chiodos feel alive (delete comma) with the melodic high vocals and intense screaming that made Chiodos who they are.  The new full-length album has been released on the band’s Myspace for fans to listen to and get a preview before the CD is released.  The new songs keep the post-hardcore genre of Chiodos, while adding the new members’ individual feel to each song.  Craig Owens will definitely be missed, but new singer Brandon Bolmer has certainly picked up the slack and filled in his footsteps.
